Member libraries in the Southeast Kansas Library System recently attended the System’s annual board meeting held at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center SEK Impact Conference Center, 1500 W. 7th Street, Chanute. The Board presented the System’s 2026 Budget and held the Revenue Neutral Rate and Budget Hearings prior to the board meeting. The meeting was part of a day of continuing education events, including keynote speakers Gail Santy and Patty Collins of Central Kansas Library System who presented “Library Ethics 101.” Public, academic and school library staff, trustees and county appointees to the system board participated in breakout sessions about advocacy, author programs, and teen services. Heather Braum, Senior Policy Advisor for Kansas Action for Children, provided an interactive session called “Despookifying Advocacy.” Corissa Uphoff, District Librarian for Prairie View USD 362, presented “Author Visits 101.” Tammie Benham, Youth Services Consultant for SEKLS, presented “Foundations of Teen Services.” The Southeast Kansas Library System is one of seven regional library systems tasked with providing consulting, grant funding and services.
