Betty Lou Trumbull

Betty Lou Trumbull, 101 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 24, 2025, surrounded by the loving presence of her family. She was born on Feb. 4, 1924, in Erie, to Herbert and Dewey (Clifford) Cox. Betty lived a long and fulfilling life, one that she dedicated to her greatest joy: her family.

Betty married the love of her life, Kenneth Trumbull, on Sept. 5, 1942, in Erie, Kansas. Kenneth preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2002.

As a devoted stay-at-home mom, Betty found purpose and happiness in caring for her loved ones. Her kind and caring personality shone brightly, embraced by everyone who knew her. Betty’s family was truly the light of her life; she cherished every moment spent in their company, particularly during the cherished Saturday gatherings at her home. These weekly lunches were filled with laughter, love, and spirited games of cards, creating memories that her family will cherish forever.

Betty is survived by her children, Patricia Ford of Chanute, Mike Trumbull of Humboldt, and Lana Douglas of Chanute. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, JoAnn Wise of Chanute, and brother, Billy Cox of Chula Vista, California. The love she shared with her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild will continue to resonate through their lives, echoing her spirit of kindness and devotion.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her daughter, Shirley Johnson. Their memories are forever entwined with the legacy of love and warmth that Betty cultivated throughout her life.

Betty will be remembered not only for her role as a nurturing mother and grandmother but also for leaving behind a rich tapestry of love that will inspire her family for generations to come.

Memorials in honor of Betty are suggested to the Chanute Honor Guard and can be left with or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 N. Forest Ave. Chanute, KS, 66720. A private family graveside has been planned. Services are under the personal care of Wickham Funeral Home.
