Chanute Area Retired School Personnel discuss fall activities

The Chanute Area Retired School Personnel met on Wednesday, Oct. 1, for a 12:30 meeting in the Cleaver Dining Room of the Student Union at NCCC. President Nancy Brooks opened the meeting and Dean Dillard gave the invocation.

Nancy introduced AMBA Agent Samuel Rosenak who presented our program for today which consisted of information on how AMBA works for the CARSP unit.

The minutes from the last general meeting and the Treasurer’s report had been handed out. It was moved and seconded to accept the reports as printed. Motion carried.

Old Business – Nancy reminded attendees that $30 dues need to be paid.

New Business – Nancy gave us some information on a group called Spark Wheel. The Chanute Middle School coordinator, Clayton Crellin, is looking for after school tutors to help students once a quarter for two hours. Anyone interested can get in touch with him at the middle school.

Reports: District 6 Director/ Membership – Jane Martin – not in attendance.

Community Service – Anita DeLaTorre/Dorie Slane/Mary Dawson – Not in attendance. Nancy reported that they are still collecting lip balm for Cherry Street and school supply decorations for the Art Gallery Christmas tree.

Recycling Date – Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. at the entrance of Santa Fe Park.

Courtesy & Welfare – Patsy Krokstrom – Not in attendance – She has sent out two birthday cards.

Health – Kathy Blair – She shared information on healthy diets.

Legislative – Mike Bruner – He shared with us information on the Legislature reconstruction of the congressional districts. He also shared information on several Kansas groups that are committed to help people understand Kansas schools.

Memorial – Jean Bearrick – nothing to report.

Scholarship – Dan Slane – not in attendance.

There being no other reports or announcements, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 12:30 p.m. in the Cleaver Dining Room at NCCC.
