INDEPENDENCE — Coffeyville secured the title at the 2025 SEK League Girls Golf Championships on Monday at Independence Country Club.

Coffeyville registered 407 strokes as a team to claim the league crown. Chanute was runner-up with 415 strokes, followed by Independence (434), Labette County (493) and Pittsburg (512).

“Any time you’re near the top, that’s good,” Chanute head coach Trevor Ewert said. “We were in the lead right up until the end, so I wish we could’ve held that lead all the way through. So it was a little disappointing. But everybody was top 15 so it was great to have that recognition. Now it’s on to regionals.”

Coffeyville’s Jessica Zimmerman was the individual league champion, shooting an 87 on the day.

Chanute’s Delaney Hastings was runner-up with a score of 95.

“The finish is always good and it’s nice to be in there,” Ewert said. “I had high expectations for us. Delaney finishing second is awesome. But everybody had some holes that left some bad taste in our mouths.”

Independence’s Sadee McCollam (96), Maddie Kepley of Chanute (98), Avery Sells of Coffeyville (101), Mossie O’Brien of Independence (106), Amelia Alvarado of Coffeyville (107), Kylie Habiger of Labette County (109), Rainey Carter of Chanute (109) and Autumn Wiske of Pittsburg (111) rounded out the top-10.

Other Chanute finishers included Layla Reinecke taking 13th (113) and Lovie Cosby taking 15th (116) in a field of 31 golfers.

For Labette County, Carlee Walker finished 17th (120), Perry Angelton 21st (126), Harlow McKibben 26th (138), Harper Benson 28th (153) and Kaylin McCoy 29th (166).

Up next

Chanute hosts a Class 4A regional tournament on Monday.

“We have some pretty lofty expectations this year and one of our goals is to make it to state as a team,” Ewert said. “If we accomplish that, we’re right where we want to be. We’ve got some solid teams coming into town. It’ll be tough competition. But we just want to keep building and defend our home turf.”
