
THAYER — Howard Curtis Laverty, 90, of Thayer, Kansas passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct.19, 2025 at his home.
Howard was welcomed into this world on Sept. 6, 1935, the only son of Charles and Louise (Moulton) Laverty in Neodesha, Kansas. Howard graduated from Neodesha High School in 1958. After high school, Howard was drafted into the United States Army and served two years until he was honorably discharged. Once he returned from his deployment, Howard went to work for his uncle Fred in the oil field. Shortly after that he realized that oil field work was what he was destined to do. He left his uncle’s company and started LK Drilling. Howard owned and operated LK Drilling until 2000 when her retired. Howard soon realized retirement did not suit him and began working as the maintenance man at the Thayer Car Wash.
Howard was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved doing yard work and tinkering on his lawn mower. He enjoyed the peaceful time of reading the Bible and watching FOX News and various religious shows on the television.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louise Laverty, infant son, Kenton Laverty, and sister, Lucille Hernandez.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Tonja Killough of Thayer, sister Anna Lour of Neodesha, grandchildren, Michael Killough, and Kathy West, great grandchildren, Kallel Nolan, Payden Nolan, and Malakia Nolan. Following Howard’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and no services are scheduled at this time.
