The High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club started the new 4-H year by holding their first meeting on Sunday, Oct.19 at the home of Trefan and Kimberly Francis.
The meeting was called to order by Acting President Tatum Francis. Flag Leaders Henry Crawshaw and Tracen Francis led the club in saying the flag salute and the 4-H pledge. Leader Kimberly Francis read the minutes from the September meeting. Roll call was “What is your favorite candy?” Which was answered by 16 members and two leaders.
Song leader Locklynn Vest led the club in singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” Treasurer Gabe Engelman gave the treasurer’s report and Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. It was reported that there had not been a 4-H Council meeting since the last club meeting.
Leader Kimberly Francis congratulated the members on the start of a new 4-H year and welcomed the new members to the club and encouraged everyone to try new projects this year and to get enrolled as soon as possible. For committee reports Leader Kimberly Francis gave a rundown on the club’s fundraiser and said it was very successful financially and she had heard many complementary comments on the food and program.
There was no old business. In new business the club voted to continue sending birthday cards to members on their birthday. The members also voted to purchase new club T-shirts this year and set up a committee to come up with a design.
Vice-President Tatum Francis announced there was no program. Recreation was the hayrack ride after the meeting. Leader Kimberly Francis explained the Spirit Stick to the new members and that all members are asked to bring paper and a writing utensil to meetings to take notes. Henry Crawshaw was awarded the Spirit Stick for being helpful.
The November meeting was moved to Nov. 9, and the members were reminded that the Achievement Banquet is Nov. 15 at the 4-H building at Old Iron Club. Leader Erin Bilby had the club sing “Happy Birthday” to Leader Kimberly Francis and then handed out the yearly program books to the members.
The meeting was adjourned with the members remaining seated and saying the 4-H motto. Following the meeting the club went on a hayrack ride followed by the members and their families enjoying a meal of soups and other snacks provided by the 4-H families.
