Betty Louise Fehr

Betty Louise Fehr, 88, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on Sept. 12, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas, Betty was the daughter of Kenneth and Frances (Miller) Bartlett. She was raised in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955. She continued her education at Neosho County Junior College, graduating in 1957.

On Nov. 12, 1960, Betty married the love of her life, Jim Fehr, in Chanute. Together, they built a home east of Chanute where they raised their son, Jeff, and operated a boarding kennel that reflected Betty’s lifelong love of animals. Betty also dedicated many years of service as a secretary for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Betty’s compassion for animals was well known among her family and friends, and she always found joy in the simple beauty of nature and the comfort of pets. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her quiet strength, warm heart, and gentle presence will be deeply missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Jim. She is survived by her son, Jeff, and daughter- in-law, Muffy, of Chanute, Kansas; her granddaughter, Elizabeth, of Lenexa, Kansas; her brother Earl and his wife Cheryl of Wichita; and her brother Larry and his wife Betty of Humboldt, Kansas.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Betty’s strength and spirit in her fight against cancer. Memorials can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 N. Forest Ave. Chanute, KS.
