The following is a reminder of who is running, ballot questions, and candidates running to be elected.
Local Races
For Chanute City Commission, the two candidates who earn the most votes will hold a four-year term, while the third-highest- ranked candidate will serve a two-year term. Candidates include Tim Egner, Kevin V. Berthot, Jacob T. LaRue and Tim Harding.
Those running for the Neosho County Community College Board of Trustees include: Bryan J. Schulz, Martha R. McCoy, and Michael De La Torre and Kathryn E. Taylor.
For USD 413 Board of Education, candidates include: Heather Guernsey, Jennifer May, Tiffany Cooney and Steven Cunningham. Elected members will serve a four-year term.
Ballot Questions
The following question will be presented to voters concerning wether or not the City of Chanute shall impose an eighth of a cent sales tax to fund the Chanute Regional Development Authority.
“Shall the following be adopted? Shall the City of Chanute, Kansas, be authorized to collect a city-wide retailers’ sales tax in the amount of 0.15% within the City of Chanute, Kansas with the full proceeds to be distributed to the Chanute Regional Development Authority, whose mission is to support economic recruitment programming and other economic and community development activities, for a period of five years? The collection of such sales tax to commence on April 1, 2026 and shall terminate five years after its commencement in accordance with the provisions of K.S.A. 12-187 et seq., and amendments thereto?”
Polling Places
Be aware that polling locations have changed this year.
Mission and Lincoln Township voters will now vote at the Osage Mission Neosho County Museum located at 203 Washington St., St. Paul. These voters previously went to St. Paul Elementary School.
East Erie, West Erie, and Walnut Grove voters will now vote at the Neosho Valley Event Center located at 321 N. Wood St., Erie. These voters previously went to the Erie American Legion Hall.
Chanute Ward 1, Chanute Ward 2, Chanute Ward 3, and Tioga voters will now vote at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center SEK Impact Conference Center located at 1500 W. 7th St., Chanute. These voters previously went to Central Park Pavilion or Zion Lutheran Church. Results from these elections and other county races will be included in Friday’s edition of the Chanute Tribune.
