Humboldt drops three at state

DODGE CITY — Dropping all three of their pool play matches at the KSHSAA 2A Volleyball State Championships, the Humboldt Cubs fell to Hillsboro, Rossville and Ellinwood on Friday.

Against Hillsboro, Humboldt fell, 2-0 (25-13, 25-16).

Ricklyn Hillmon paced the Cubs with six kills while Laney Hull added three in the loss.

Bailey Daniels and Lakyn Meadows had five assists apiece. Skylar Hottenstein had 28 digs.

Humboldt lost to Rossville, 2-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-15). The first set was the lone set Humboldt won at state.

Hillmon amassed 13 kills while Hull added a dozen. Jadey Ellis also had three kills for the Cubs.

Daniels had 16 assists while Meadows added 13. Hottenstein tallied 24 digs.

Against Ellinwood, the Cubs fell, 2-0 (25-13, 25-10).

Hillmon had eight kills with Hull and Meadows adding four and three, respectively.

Meadows added nine assists while Daniels had six. Hottenstein had 17 digs while Meadows had eight.

Ellinwood went on to win the state title, defeating Jefferson County North, 2-0 (25-10, 25-14) in the semifinals and Valley Heights, 2-0 (25-16, 25-21) in the title match.

Humboldt finishes the season with a 34-12 overall record.
