OGDEN, Iowa — Linda June Loach went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 31, 2025.
Linda was known for her cheery outlook, her infectious smile and her crazy sense of humor. Linda enjoyed cows, snowmen, crafting and decorating for Christmas. Linda loved her many pet cats and dogs. She had multiple medical conditions and was known for smiling and joking through her many adversities, including amputations and kidney dialysis. Her motto was ”Things can always be worse.”
Linda was born May 23, 1954, to Carroll August and June Elaine Lyman Loach in Chicago, IL. In 1961, Linda, her two older brothers, David and Michael, and their grandmother, Florence Lyman, moved to Chanute. Other than one year in grade school spent in Chicago, Linda lived in Chanute until 1986. Linda attended Hutton one year, St. Patrick’s school through 8th grade, Royster Junior High School and Chanute High School. She earned her G.E.D. in 1973.
While in high school, she met Linda Cox in 1970 and they quickly became best friends and sisters- in-heart. They frequently camped at Linda’s favorite place on earth, Vassar State Park at Pomona Lake, south of Topeka. Both Lindas were big fans of the Statler Brothers and saw their concerts at least 30 times in 14 states. Linda worked at several places in Chanute, including ILC, Woodmark, and Carder’s Philmart. Linda was married for a short time to Mike Schultz, and they divorced. She graduated from Neosho County Community College in 1985. In 1986, Linda moved to Americus, KS, to attend Emporia State University. She received her bachelor’s degree with a major in Marketing in 1988. Because her grandmother, Florence Lyman (Nana), was blind, Linda always wanted to work with the blind. She graduated with her master’s degree from ESU in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1991. Following an internship at the Kansas Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Topeka, KS she became an employee there until she had to take disability in 2002. In 2003, Linda moved to Ogden, IA.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother and her brother Michael. She is survived by her brother David Loach of Phoenix, Arizona, her chosen family Lucille Cox of Petrolia, Steve Cox and Sandy Cox both of Chanute and Linda Cox of Ogden, Iowa. Linda also leaves behind her cats Fiona, Cinder, Missy and Vinny and her dogs Maggie, Trudy and Abby.
Linda requested that memorials be sent to Story County Animal Shelter, 975 West Lincoln Highway, Nevada, IA 50201. Please write checks to “Friends of the Animals” and note that it is in memory of Linda Loach.
Per Linda’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private family internment will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa.
