A Quilt of Valor is a handmade quilt, either machine or hand quilted, presented to service members and veterans who have been touched by war. The quilts are intended to offer comfort and say, without question, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice.”
Veterans who served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard are eligible to receive a Quilt of Valor. Activated National Guard members and activated or active-duty reservists also qualify.
More than 350,000 quilts have been awarded nationwide through the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
Five of the six quilts currently on display at the Chanute Art Gallery will be presented to veterans from the Chanute area at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14. The presentation will be made by Connie Schmidt, chair of the local Quilts of Valor chapter. The display is sponsored by the local Quilts of Valor chapter and the Sew’nSew Quilt Guild.
The Chanute Art Gallery, located at 17 N. Lincoln Ave., is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
