The Southeast Sunflowers 4-H club held its October meeting with the initiation of new officers for the 2025-2026 year. Officers include President Cashlee Smith, Vice President Devin Vogel, Secretary Khloe Brown, Treasurer Cassie Vitt, Reporter Jackson Beachner, and Historians Caisley Smith, Emma Kintzer, Arianna Maples, and Gracyn Beachner. Song leaders are Carter Fleer and Gracyn Beachner. Fleer led the club in the flag salute, and Secretary Brown conducted a roll call by asking members to name their favorite Halloween movie. Correspondence was led by Heather Vogel, who discussed the 2026 static exhibit initiative, the Extra Spark Award, aimed at promoting static exhibits at the fair.

Treasurer Vitt gave the treasurer’s report, and Reporter Beachner noted submissions to the Chanute Tribune and the Southwind Extension page.

Leader Vogel reported that enrollment for the new 4-H year is open through Dec. 1 and reminded members about officer training scheduled in Moran on Sunday, Oct. 26, followed by a 4-H council meeting.

The 4-H council reported that its next meeting will follow officer training on Oct. 26 in Moran. The Fairboard will meet Oct. 19.

Under new business, members voted to hold a trash bag fundraiser, to be completed by Nov. 10 to ensure delivery before Thanksgiving. Beachner moved to approve the fundraiser, and Smith seconded the motion, which passed. The club also voted to pay enrollment fees for members who complete a green record book for the 2025-2026 4-H year.

Members will collect canned goods at the next meeting, with Leader Vogel arranging the donation location. The club also voted to participate in a Christmas float in the St. Paul Christmas parade, with details to be shared at the November meeting.
