Stephen “Steve” Craig

GROVE, Okla. — Stephen Anthony “Steve” Craig, 54, of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Steve was born Dec. 5, 1970, in Chanute, Kansas. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1989 and attended Emporia State University. He later made his home in Grove, where for 30 years he owned and operated a successful flooring installation business.

Steve married Jamie Brock on Dec. 31, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They welcomed a son, Colin Anthony Craig, on Oct. 26, 2001. Steve was a devoted husband and father and especially loved coaching Colin in multiple sports, a role he cherished.

An avid NASCAR fan, Steve attended races across the country and rarely missed one on television. He also loved music and was known for dancing and singing along to his favorite songs. In recent years, he developed a passion for boating and spent many days on Grand Lake. His final days were spent in Arizona with his friend Karl, enjoying time by the pool and soaking up the sun.

Steve was known for his larger-than-life personality, his ability to talk about nearly any subject, and his contagious zest for life. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, L.W. Crabtree, Bill and Tula Craig, and Howard and Betty Almond; his niece, Carlie Almond; his aunt, Zona Greene; and his cousin, Kyle Greene.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie Craig of the home; his son, Colin Craig; his parents, Jerry Craig and John and Phyllis Almond; a brother, Brad (Amy) Almond; a sister, Corrie (Harley) Craig; his grandmother, Norma Crabtree; his in-laws, Dean and Nina Brock; a sister-in-law, Deana (Jeff) Miller; and nephews and nieces Garrett Almond, Brock Miller and Lauryn (Tyler) AraSmith. He was a loving father, son, uncle and friend to many.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlie Almond Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Nichols Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services in Grove, Oklahoma. A second visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.

Services are entrusted to Nichols Stephens Funeral Service of Grove, Oklahoma.
