Donald Lee Huerter, 71 of Chanute passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025 at Heritage Healthcare.
Donald was born on Aug.23, 1954 in Concordia, Kansas to Robert and Eileen (Roggenkamp) Huerter. The family then moved to Chanute where Don graduated from Chanute High School in 1973. On May 3, 1985, Don married the love of his life, Debra Lucille Olson in Miami, Oklahoma. Don was an equipment operator for the City of Chanute for 31 years before retiring.
Don was a member of the Elks Lodge 806. Don loved the outdoors; he spent countless hours fishing and camping. Don and Debra loved to jump in the vehicle and simply cruise around taking in all the scenery. Don will be remembered for his love of his family. He adored the time he spent with his grandchildren. Don had a way of making every family event special, creating memories for everyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eileen Huerter.
Don’s memory will carry on with his wife, Debra Huerter, son, Josh and wife Courtney Huerter, daughter, Stephanie and husband Eric Byers, grandchildren, Bristol Byers, Bo Byers, Jaxon Huerter, and Wyatt Huerter, brothers, Bob Huerter and Bruce Huerter, and sisters, Debbie Huerter, and Linda Burger.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and the family will gather for a visitation to share Don’s memories on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home.
