It’s the calendar ritual time….2025 to 2026. Time to transfer Dr. appointments and birthdays to the 2026. You know, transferring the appointments to next year, onto the calendar hanging on the refrigerator.
You know you are getting older when you still use the refrigerator calendar instead of your electronic calendar.
Ahh, yes, another year older, another specialist!
Aging takes Grace and Grit. Seriously, there are some issues behind aging. The memory gets a little foggy, the body slows down, loneliness come at unexpected times, and loss of good friends to moves as they move toward the kids.
And changes in your identity.
Aging takes Grace and Grit.
Grit is being tough-minded and strong mentally. You accept support but don’t rely on it. Flexibility yields grit. You stay positive when the situation is negative. These characteristics and more are developed through the years as we change the calendar..
We grow in grit, and experience Grace, the touch of God, even to our age. And His word speaks directly to our situation.
But Grace is real, a gift from God. Scripture invites you to bring those fears to God.
Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
You are not done.Your purpose isn’t retired — it is changed Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
In the Bible God used older saints powerfully. God called Moses to lead Israelites from Egypt. Caleb, at great age, asked to be given the mountains of the Promised land to be his for the taking. Anna as an elderly prophet was one of the first to see he infant Jesus. The apostle John received the Revelation to comfort God’s people in trial.
What God did before He can do again.
And you can be an Agent of Grace on God’s behalf.
One of the greatest ministries of the later years is blessing others.
Proverbs 25:11 (NIV) “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
Your words — your blessing — carries weight young voices don’t have yet.
You can choose to bless your children and grandchildren. There are younger believers to be encouraged. There are very friends, and lonely neighbors.
Blessing others keep our spirits young and lighten the world of others.
Grit is something you develop. Grace is a Gift of God.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV) “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV) “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Walking with you Along The Way Of Grace.
