The High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club met Sunday, Dec. 7, at High Prairie Church, with Acting President Tatum Francis calling the meeting to order.
Flag Leader Henry Crawshaw led the flag salute and 4-H pledge. Secretary Tinselle Francis read the minutes from the November meeting and conducted roll call, asking members to share their favorite Christmas song. Sixteen members and three leaders responded.
Song leaders Sienna Drumm-Williams and Locklynn Vest announced the songs to be sung during the club’s caroling later that evening: “Jingle Bells,” “Away in a Manger” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Treasurer Gabe Engelman presented the treasurer’s report, and Reporter Hunter Reaves gave the reporter’s report. Parliamentarian Oliver Bilby and Leader Andrew Engelman explained the definition and purpose of a recess and how it may be called during meetings.
Council Representative Oliver Bilby also provided a summary of the most recent 4-H Council meeting and announced the newly elected council officers for the year.
Leader Kimberly Francis encouraged members to complete their 4-H enrollment as soon as possible and to begin planning activities for County Club Days. She also announced an “Exploring 4-H: Arts & Crafts and Food” meeting scheduled for Dec. 22 at the 4-H Learning Center in Fredonia, noting it would be a good opportunity for junior leaders to assist younger members.
Leader Andrew Engelman emphasized the importance of participation in County Club Days, which will be held Feb. 21. During committee reports, Kimberly Francis said the club hopes to have T-shirts ready by January and asked members to submit their shirt sizes.
There was no old business. In new business, members voted to pay the bill for items used in the club’s caroling gift baskets and approved participating in a model meeting at County Club Days.
There was no program announced by Acting Vice President Hunter Reaves. Recreation followed the meeting.
Before adjournment, Kimberly Francis reviewed post-meeting activities and their order. Acting President Francis awarded the Spirit Stick to Oliver Bilby for his parliamentarian duties and council report. Caleb Kuhn won a number-drawing game after selecting the number 67.
The meeting adjourned with members standing and reciting the 4-H motto.
Following the meeting, refreshments were provided by the Drumm and Kuhn families, with additional treats brought by other families. Members participated in a gift exchange, took photos wearing Santa and Christmas hats, and went caroling to community members.
