EATON, Colo. — Nancy Ballinger, 78, of Eaton, CO passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, in Greeley, Colorado.
Nancy was born on Oct. 28, 1947, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Alfred and Marcella (Wachob) Hawkins. Shortly after, the family relocated to Muskogee, OK where Nancy graduated high school in 1965. With her dreams set on becoming an elementary school teacher, she graduated from what is now Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1969 and began her teaching career in Chanute, Kansas, shortly thereafter.
In Chanute, she met David Ballinger, and they married in 1972. David was a farmer and Nancy enjoyed the farm very much, especially raising hogs. Together, they had two sons, Wesley and Ricky Ballinger.
During Nancy’s teaching career, she taught second and fifth grades before retiring in 1990 and relocating with her family to Eaton, Colorado. She took great pride in her teaching career and always enjoyed hearing from her past students.
Nancy was a caring mother and devoted wife, whether it was helping her sons with homework or processing payroll for the family business. In her spare time, she enjoyed arts and crafts.
Nancy is survived by her sons and her sisters, Linda Nicholson, Gayle Rush, and Kathy Hawkins. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents (1976) and husband (2012).
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 11th Avenue in Evans, Colorado. Graveside services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Eaton Cemetery.
