OLATHE — Helen Marie Alger passed away on Dec. 27, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 104. Born on Aug. 11, 1921, in Benedict, Kansas, Helen was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her Helen married Monroe Alger in 1939 in Coffeyville, Kansas. She and her husband lived in Chanute, Kansas, for 21 years before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1954. In 1964 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and in 1970 relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Her husband worked for Phillips Petroleum Company until his retirement. She is survived by her son, Arlin Alger, of San Francisco, her great-nephew, Rusty Alger of Chanute, and grand-niece, Debbie Shields of Chanute. Helen also held dear the friendships with Gary and Vickie Morsch, who remained close friends and caretakers until her death. Helen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Monroe Alger, whose memory she carried with love and fond remembrance throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Angie Cozad Mathews, and brother, Walter Mathews of Del City, Oklahoma. As we reflect on Helen’s extraordinary life, we remember her quick wit, fun-loving nature, and her generous spirit. Private services will be held.
