Do you remember Art Linkletter and his TV show “Kids Say The Darnedest Things”? He made a living using quotes from young children”. He even wrote a few books on the subject. I currently have one of them in my library. If you’re having a down day and want some humor and smiles to take your mind off of your problems, reading one of his books might be a quick cure.
Recently, while sorting through some old papers I came across a list of things 8-year olds have said regarding grandmothers and grandfathers. Since several of you reading this column today are probably grandparents I thought you just might have heard a few of the following descriptions about grandparents. If not, I know you will more than likely get a few chuckles.
Here goes…..These descriptions were written by 8-year olds. What is a grandmother or grandfather?
A grandmother/grandfather is a person who has no little children of their own.
A grandfather is a man grandmother Grandmothers/grandfathers don’t have to do anything except be there when you come to see them.
When they take us for walks they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.
They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also why we shouldn’t step on them.
They don’t say “Hurry up.” Usually grandmothers/grandfathers are fat, but not too fat to bend over and tie our shoes.
They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out. Grandmothers /grandfathers don’t have to be smart. They have to answer questions like “Why isn’t God married?” and why do dogs chase cats”?
When they read to us, they don’t skip. They don’t mind if we want them to read the same story over and over again.
Everyone should have one. They know we should have a snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time.
They let us sit on their lap and give us hugs and kisses. Author Unknown Happy New Year to all!
