The Kansas Water Authority (KWA) approved the membership of 60 committee members at their December meeting.
These Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) members serve as local advisors to the KWA, representing all water users in the region, including public water suppliers, agriculture, industry, commerce, conservation, environment, irrigation, and more.
The Neosho RAC covers 18 counties in the southeast region of the state. The RACs advise the Kansas Water Office (KWO) and KWA on local water-related issues and serve as a link to water management entities and their communities. They also create priority regional goals which advise statewide water planning The following members were recently appointed to the Neosho RAC: Joe Buchanan, Council Grove – representing the Public Water Supply category Richard Hines, Erie – representing the Conservation/Environment category Jay Byers, Pittsburg – representing the At Large Public category The KWA is responsible for advising the Governor, Legislature and Director of the Kansas Water Office on water policy issues. They also ensure that water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans as well as serve as advisors of the Kansas Water Plan. The KWA was established in 1981 and consists of 13 voting members who are appointed by the Governor or Legislative leadership. State agency directors serve as ex-officio members.
