Operation Soupline took place at the Masonic Temple on Thursday, Feb. 19. A long-standing tradition in Chanute, Operation Soupline is the main fundraising event for the Alliance of Churches for Christian Living, or ACCL. The ACCL is a nonprofit comprised of local churches that assist with utilities, rent and other needs. The ACCL coordinates the event and organizes the dozens of volunteers who make the event happen, enlisting help from Neosho County Community College as well as young volunteers at Cherry Street who also helped bake pies. All of the proceeds from the event are utilized for the fund, as everything for the fundraiser is donated. Soupline organizer Laura Mallett was very pleased with the turnout for the year, but could not provide a number for how much was raised as of press time. Volunteers did not know exactly how many gallons of soup they had prepared, but were hard at work ensuring that there was enough for the crowd. The pies are all donated by local bakers, giving patrons a wide variety of options; whole pies are also sold as part of the event. Adrienne Wahl | Tribune Photos
