
Galen Eugene Shepard, 59, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born July 26, 1966, in Garnett, the son of Herb E. and Carol Ilene (Hammond) Shepard. He graduated from Yates Center High School in 1984, received an Associates Degree from Neosho Community College in Chanute, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Printing Management from Pittsburg State University..
He had been a resident of the Life Care Center in Burlington for the past two years.
Galen’s faith was an important part of his life. He read his Bible often and attended the Burlington Christian Church when able. He enjoyed reading and playing board games, doing leather craft, and playing Bingo at the Life Care Center. He loved giving gifts of anything to do with a frog to his sister Donna and was extremely proud of his brother, Harlen’s, service in the U.S. Navy.
His father, Herb Shepard, preceded him in death.
He leaves his mother, Carol Shepard, Chanute, his brother, Harlen Shepard and wife Jocelyn, Santee, CA; his sister, Donna Shepard, Chanute; nieces, Janel Pascual, Jenny Kemp, and Rikkie Thouvenell, nephew Jordan Shepard; greatnieces, Harley Lynn Hernandez and Mileena Thouvenell; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday March 11, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery east of Burlington.
The family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. until funeral time Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or charity of choice and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
