
Delmer Joseph Menke, 93 passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Delmer was welcomed into this world on December 5,1932 in Hanover, to Joseph and Clara (Mertes) Menke. When he was one year old the family moved to Wellington, where he spent most of his school years. The family later moved to a farm in Humboldt. In March of 1952, Delmer entered the United States Army. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in March of 1955. On October 4,1955, Delmer married the love of his life Dorothy Gerritzen in Piqua. They were together for 69 years. With this union they welcomed two children, Steven and Staci.
On March 19,1962 Delmer began working at the Kansas Department of Transportation. Delmer worked for the KDOT for 31 years, before retiring May 18, 1993. During his free time, Delmer loved to go fishing with his grandchildren, work in his garden, tend his horses, and craft wood construction projects. Delmer was a member of the Boerstler-May American Legion Post 170 for 64 years, the VFW, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his dear wife Dorothy, his parents Joseph and Clara Menke, and his sister Dolores Peters.
Delmer is survived by his children, Steven (Alisa) Menke of Rogers, Arkansas, and Staci (Schuyler) Wedel of Valley Center, sisters, Marianne Westerman of Iola, Lois Worley of Chanute, and Edna Morris of Chanute, grandchildren, Morgan Menke, Brooke Menke, Hope (Luke) Vohs, and Ashton Wedel. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Humboldt, on Thursday, March 12, 2026 with the family greeting friends from 10:00am to 10:30am. Reciting of the Rosary will commence at 10:30am with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00am. Interment will be held at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Piqua. Memorial contributions can be made in Delmer’s name to the St. Joseph Altar Society and can be left with the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
