Chanute city commissioners and others participated in a brief groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for the new Chanute water treatment plant. Crossland Construction will be building the plant and Midwest Engineering Group designed it. Construction could take 18 to 24 months, according to City Manager Todd Newman. The city has issued a series of bonds to finance the project. The clarifiers at the plant will be replaced and have covers placed on them.
