Building permits in Chanute during the month of July decreased in number but were up in value, the city’s monthly report shows.
Chanute “only” issued 117 building permits in July, down from 198 in June. But the total value was up to $2 million from $1.75 million the previous month.
The value of construction this year is closing in on the amount for the same time last year. Through the end of July, Chanute issued 1,071 building permits, most to repair roof damage from a hail storm at the end of February. This year’s total construction value has reached $11.1 million, compared to $12.1 million issued in July 2016 when work began on the Orizon Aerostructures production plant.
July building permits included 12 residential and four non-residential additions or alterations.
A $650,000 permit was issued for a total interior remodeling at 1401 S. Santa Fe, the planned location of Tractor Supply Co. in the Chanute Square shopping center.
A $16,000 interior restaurant remodeling was set at 115 E. Main by owner Travis West.
Roofing projects include a $300,000 project for Safari Apartments, 1500 W. Main, and projects of $19,559 and $25,242 for Westview Baptist Church, 1415 S. Plummer.
A residential garage at 508 W. 3rd is slated for demolition.
