Chanute Christian Academy will host a banquet Saturday to celebrate 30 years of service.

CCA was originally started after Donna Collins, a member of Living Word Assembly of God, presented the idea to the elders of the church in 1986. The preschool and kindergarten were started that fall, with grades 1-6 added in 1987. A grade was added every year after that until they had their first graduating class of high school seniors.

Alumni will be sharing their experiences at the school. The major guest speaker will be Jason Dellinger, a Christian motivational speaker who played Division I baseball at Liberty University. He later worked as an insurance agent, before he was fired for refusing to remove a Christian message from his answering machine.

CCA Administrator Ryan Wheeler said that tickets are sold-out for the event, which is both a celebration and a fundraiser for the school’s scholarship fund and new playground equipment.

Portions of the current playground date back to the school’s founding and need replacement.

“It should be really exciting for the kids to get something new,” Wheeler said.

The funds from the event will be split between the playground and scholarship funds once the money comes in.

Those who want to donate to the playground fund outside of Saturday’s event can send a check made out to Chanute Christian Academy to 1000 W. 14th or call the school at (620) 431-7777 for more details.
