1 UP, 138 TO GO

Assembly of the first of 139 wind turbines in the Neosho Ridge Wind project was completed on Saturday. This turbine site is just off US-59, south of Galesburg Road, not far from the northern Labette County line on US-59. Apex Clean Energy, the parent company of the project, now uses a new type of blade with “teeth” that is supposed to be more efficient and operate more quietly. Several more turbines are planned for complete assembly in the next two weeks, as crews work their way through the project map.

Project managers have announced the closure of Jackson Road from 100th to K-47 on Wednesday from 8 am to 5 pm. This week, crews will be grooming and grading 85th Road from US-169 to Elk Road; 95th Road from Elk to Ford; and Elk Road from 60th to 90th. They will work on intersection improvements at 60th and Gray, 85th and Elk, and K-47 and Jackson Road. Foundation backfills will continue south of K-47 and in the northwest portion of the project, and work continues on the substation at 70th and Irving. Turbine component deliveries will continue north on US-169, east on K-47, and south on Irving Road. Components will be delivers south of 60th to 80th Roads, and east of Irving to US-59.
