Lawrence “Larry” Whalen, Stark, Kansas passed on December 25, 2019. He was son of John and Almeda Whalen, born on August 5, 1937. He graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1954 and served in the US Navy. Larry married his wife, Patricia “Patty” Isom, June 20, 1959. She preceded him in death. He retired from Auto Wash Supply in 2001. He volunteered at the Grant Community Center helping with various tasks and running the concession stand during ball games. Larry was very outgoing and has never met a stranger. He loved to fish and made numerous fishing trips with friends. He and his wife, Patty, square danced with the Swinging Squares in Raytown, MO for many years.
Also preceding him in death are his siblings John H. Whalen, Kathleen Darden, Barbara Spaulding, and Robert I. Whalen. Surviving are daughter Tracy Ball of Kincaid; Four grandchildren: Bradley Kilbury of Swanonna NC, Alix Camarda of Renton WA, Macy Bennett of Stark, Lillie Ball of Kincaid; and 6 great-grandchildren; brother James Whalen and wife, Jean, of Wichita; in laws: Phillip Isom of Stark, Larry and Francine Isom of Stark, Leslie and Pat Isom of Camarillo, CA; 10 nieces and seven nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 1 mile south of Savonburg, on January 4 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Committee for Grant Community Center (GBC).
