Georgianna Dent White Hathaway, 98, of New Castle, Colorado died October 29, 2019 at the Veterans Community Living Center in Rifle, Colorado, where she had been a resident for the last 2 years.
Georgianna was born at home on the Dent farm near Chanute, on March 8, 1921. She was raised by her loving parents Jess Beecher Dent and Iva Jane (Allen) Dent. Georgianna was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Leona Whinery, Pauline Drisdell, Genevieve Nicholson, and Everett Dent.
Georgianna rode her horse Dolly to a perfect attendance at the RE44 one-room school house southeast of Chanute. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1940, where she was a member of the girls golf team, Swing Club and the orchestra.
Georgianna married Robert Allen White in Sedan, Kansas on February 13, 1942. Robert preceded her in death in 1981. Georgianna married James Hathaway in Kauai, Hawaii in 1985. and they resided in San Pedro, California and Chanute, Kansas. James preceded her in death in 1996.
Georgianna is survived by her three children and their spouses, Judith and Joe Roberts of Grand Junction Colorado, Ronald and Shirley White of Dodge City Kansas, and Stephen and Sylvia White of New Castle, Colorado. Also surviving her are 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Georgianna lived a full and blessed life. She was never afraid of hard work and loved travel and new experiences. She had success as a musician, artist, bookkeeper, bowler, secretary, realtor, pinochle player and is remembered for her amazing luck with slot machines.
Most of all she was recognized as a dedicated and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She will be fondly remembered for her intense love of her family, her sense of humor, her home cooked meals, and especially her lemon meringue pies!
Georgianna is loved by a host of nieces and nephews, who have said she was like their second mother. She was lovingly called “Georgie” by friends and family.
Services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 11 am at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel at 16 North Forest Avenue, Chanute, Kansas, and will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, in Chanute. A visitation will precede the funeral between 10:30 and 11 am at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com
The family suggests memorials to be made to American Diabetes Association or Johnson Endowment Fund/Education/Martin & Osa Johnson Safari Museum in Chanute and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
