John Michael Curtis, 70, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Shawnee Mission, KS. John was born on October 22, 1948 in Coffeyville, KS, the son of John and Joan (Toon) Curtis.
John graduated from Chanute High School and then went on to serve in the United States Navy. After the navy, he attended Neosho County Community College in Chanute. John worked as a welder at Young’s Welding, Chanute Manufacturing and NuWa Campers. He enjoyed riding motorcycles when he was younger and hunting and fishing.
John is survived by his children, Norman Curtis and significant other Mindy Ayers of Chanute, KS. and Ellen Curtis of Los Angeles, CA; siblings: Logan Curtis and wife, Sandy, Annie Keenan and husband, Kevin, Debra Curtis; and grandchildren: Bryce Curtis, Blair Curtis, Ashton Greer, Blake Ayers, and Braiden Ayers.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Curtis and nephew, Kris Keenan.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 4-6 pm at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 9, 2019 starting at 5 pm at 1622 S. Plummer in Chanute. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 11 am at Greenwood Cemetery east of Chanute, KS. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com
