Will host opening round of Region VI DII playoffs
Originally scheduled for today at 2 p.m., then rescheduled for Friday at noon in Chanute, the Neosho County Community College softball team split with Kansas City Community College Friday at Humboldt Friday afternoon in its final regular season game.
Neosho beat KCK 9-1 in a run rule shortened game one. Neosho fell to KCK 4-3 in game two.
Neosho started the game with a two runs in the bottom of the first. The first run of the contest came on an Anna Crawford RBI double that scored Tiara Ewy. The second run was scored when Taylor Pence drove in Crawford with a RBI triple.
KCK scored its only run with a Tiffany Killian home run in the top of the second.
run bottom of the third gave Neosho an 8-1 lead heading into the fourth.
Pence began the scoring in the inning with a RBI single that scored Karolyna Gomez. Meaghan Thompson then scored Crawford with a sacrifice RBI. Run three in the innning came on error during a Jozie Garner at bat that scored Pence. Rodriguez then scored on a double steal with Garner reaching second. Taylor Bolden scored the final two runs of the inning, driving in Garner and Ewy with a two RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Neosho scored the final run of game one when Thompson scored Crawford on a sacrifice fly RBI to left field.
Neosho fell in game two to KCK, falling 4-3. The Panthers gave up the game winning run in the top of the seventh.
In game one, Thompson pitched a complete game and allowed four hits and one run in five innings. She struck out four and walked three. Pence was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ewy went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Crawford was 1-for-2 with a RBI and three runs scored. Bolden went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Garner was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Thompson was 0-for-1 with two RBIs.
Neosho (15-7 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East, 19-7 Region VI DII, 23-19 overall) will host the opening round of the Region VI DII playoffs. Opponent and game date and time are yet to be determined.
